Best Web Animation Tool
Macromedia's final award for the night goes to Flash 5. I've barely begun to get into this latest version, but it boggles the mind that so much can be created and then viewed by so many people and with such small file sizes. This tool is everything Web. Whatever you think about the interface versus competing programs, there is no denying that Flash is the most powerful of the bunch.

Particularly in release 5, Flash brings users unparalleled power to create interactive presentations for the Web with powerful scripting, a more refined interface and incredible compression capabilities. This things definitely goes non-Euclidean in terms of file size geometry. I still can't figure out why I can import JPEGs into the program and have my final output significantly smaller (with no loss of quality) than each of the individual files taken separately—even compared with files created in Fireworks. Significantly. Well, whatever the voodoo Macromedia's putting over on my computer, kudos to the skilled software designers at Macromedia who continue make designers' lives easier with their outstanding efforts.
