Candy 4000 for Adobe Photoshop
Finally, I'd like to close this out with two plugins that have been released this
year that stand out above the rest. The first, in the category of Best Photoshop
Plugin, is Eye Candy 4000, a major upgrade from an already powerful Photoshop
plugin. Created by Alien Skin Software, Eye Candy offers natural media effects
and other effects (23 filters total) that have become, like Photoshop itself,
an indispensable tool in my repertoire. This latest release brought added functionality
and great workflow improvements, such as multiple levels of undo directly within
the filter interface, as well as several new effects. It's a joy to work with;
it's stable; and it's able to output some great effects.

FILTERiT
3 for Adobe Illustrator 8/9
The final category is for Best Illustration Plugin. This year there is no choice
but to give it to CValley for FILTERiT 3 for Adobe Illustrator 8/9. I've commented
numerous times that I'm no fan of Illustration programs. I like big, fat bitmaps
and the total freedom you have when working with them. But FILTERiT 3 changed
my perspective by offering 80-some-odd filters in one package that allow me almost
the degree of freedom to create art that I experience in paint programs. It actually
lets me interactively brush around, warp and otherwise control my vector graphics
as if I were working with bitmaps. This plugin made me enjoy working in Illustrator.
This, in itself, proves the value of this tool. But more, it's truly a powerful
plugin that brings a level of functionality to Illustrator never seen before.
