Roland DGA has started shipping SignMate 6.5 for the Maccintosh. The company says the software, created for graphic designers, sign makers and others who work with Roland cutters and printers, has been completely redesigned for the Mac. (It also runs on various Windows flavors but with different functionality.)

Designed specifically for all Roland cutters, printers and print/cut machines, SignMate 6.5 is built on true Mac standards for optimal performance, according to the company. Features include:

  • Spot color support
  • Color calibration
  • Improved image quality
  • Nesting
  • Contour cutting
  • Color separation
  • Gradient fills
  • Job statistics
  • FMX dithering for faster performance.

SignMate treats Mac users to several new edit features. In addition to DesignCentral, which gives users a centralized location for all object properties and options, the Mac version offers QuickEdit, QuickShapes and QuickHandles. QuickEdit changes an object's characteristics, even when other effects have already been applied. QuickShapes adds rectangles, ovals, polygons, stars and arrows to a design. QuickHandles is used to kern individual characters or every character in a line and to adjust tracking and line spacing.

The Mac version also includes new advanced color management tools, such as new ICC color profiles. Adobe PostScript functions allow for for importing EPS and PS files. Built-in interface profiles, such as those found in CorelDRAW and Photoshop, give users a familiar interface.

SignMate 6.5 runs on Mac, Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000/ME systems. The entire suite of SignMate cut and print/cut products is priced from $1,999 to $4,999. For more information, visit http://www.rolanddga.com.
