Agfa has announced two new models in its line of SnapScan flatbed scanners. The new e42 and e52 will both offer 48-bit color and four programmable buttons, as well as 1,200 x 2,400 DPI resolution. In addition, Agfa has also set a release date for Mac OS X drivers and applications for its scanners.

OS X support plans include ScanWise and FotoLook. OS X version of both will be available in June—at least in beta form.

"With the Mac OS X versions of ScanWise and FotoLook, our intent is to take full advantage of the new operating system's capabilities such as increased system stability and general productivity," said Peter Verhulst, international sales and marketing manager, in a prepared statement.

The new SnapScan scanners are both planned for release later this year. The e42 will appear in May, while the e52 will ship in June. The e52 includes a transparency unit.

The scanners' four programmable buttons let users scan and send the image directly to the printer, scan and send the image directly to the selected email client, launch Agfa's ScanWise software for manual control of scan settings and launch ReadIris OCR software for converting paper documents into digital text.

The e42 and e52 include ScanWise, Ulead PhotoExplorer, NTM Web Personal and ReadIris OCR. Both scanners are compatible with Macintosh and Windows.

The e42 will sell for about $160. The e52 will sell for about $200. For more information, visit http://www.agfa.com.
