Quark today announced the release of QuarkCopyDesk Special Edition, a text-editing and processing application designed for writers and editors. The new software offers the text features of QuarkXPress without the overhead of the graphics features, according to Quark.

QuarkCopyDesk SE integrates with QuarkXPress so that aticles created in QuarkCopyDesk SE can be imported into QuarkXPress layouts, with exact hyphenation, justification and line endings. In addition to standard word-processing features that let users create and edit text, QuarkCopyDesk SE includes unique features intended specifically for writers and editors. Text can be viewed in WYSIWYG, full screen or galley view, and multiple article components can be managed in a single document.

Like QuarkXPress, QuarkCopyDesk SE can also accept Xtensions for expanding the application's capabilities. Other features include:

  • Work and print in WYSIWYG, Galley, or Full-Screen views;
  • View text as it will appear in the QuarkXPress™ layout in WYSIWYG view;
  • Specify screen fonts for optimum readability and fast screen redraw in Galley and Full-Screen views;
  • View line counts and actual line breaks in Galley view;
  • Add and edit "sticky" notes and enclose them within the article;
  • Copy and paste text between notes and article text;
  • Print notes with article text;
  • Open, view and edit notes in QuarkXPress;
  • Monitor story length according to words, lines or column depth;
  • Display underset/overset amounts by words, lines or column depth;
  • Import and export text in Microsoft™ Word, WordPerfect and XPress Tags formats.

QuarkCopyDesk SE is available for both Mac OS and Windows for $299. For more information, visit http://www.quark.com.
