CValley late yesterday started shipping version 4 of its FILTERiT
plugin for Adobe Illustrator 8 and 9. The new version is available
only for the Macintosh, with a Windows version expected in May.
FILTERiT is a plugin that creates a number of effects in Illustrator—more
than 50, actually—from warps and waves to magnification and shatter
effects. (See our review of version 3 with examples at http://www.creativemac.com/HTM/Features/2000/Reviews/filterit/filterit3-page1.htm.)
FILTERiT 4 offers even more features, including 3D transforms,
fractalization, tracing and more.
With 3D Transform filters, objects can be transformed into spheres,
spirals, donuts or cylinders with a click of the mouse. The Trace
option is used to prepare animations for the Web and also lets
you produce motion blur effects by using Illustrator 9's transparency
capability. (The filters work in Illustrator 8, but Illustrator
8 does not support transparency.) Fractalize allows you to make
the segments of the object appear rough and zigzagged.
FILTERiT 4 requires Adobe Illustrator 8 or later and a Power Mac
running System 7.5.3 or later. It's available for $129. For more
