Media Automation Consulting says it will debut version 3 of its
PlanSystem at Seybold Boston this year. PlanSystem is a publishing
management system designed for magazines and other periodicals.
PlanSystem supports the editorial process from planning through
output.
PlanSystem 3 has a completely new user interface, is available
for Mac and Windows and supports Adobe InScope and QuarkXPress.
(Direct support for Adobe InDesign will be available later this
year.) PlanSystem 3 can be implemented with Oracle or Microsoft
SQL Server database software. Connections to other databases can
be made available on request.
The PlanSystem 3 client software suite includes several applications:
- PlanMaker:
flatplanning and dummying software. PlanMaker offers features
to place ads and editorial content in the flatplan automatically
and manually, including the option to create QuarkXPress pages
automatically. PlanMaker is available as an integrated part
of the PlanSystem product line or as a standalone publication
planning application, including the option to do XML export
for Adobe InScope.
- PlanView:
a system for viewing the flatplan from within a Web browser.
- PlanControl:
production control via the Web.
- PlanJob:
Web-based workflow.
- XTensions
and plugins offering PlanSystem functionality to QuarkXPress
and Adobe InDesign users.
For smaller
magazines, there's also PlanSystem Light, a user-installable version
of PlanSystem available only for the Macintosh. Pricing on the
new version was not available at press time. For more information,
