Unisys and WoodWing Software have teamed up in a development effort
for Unisys' News Content Manager for Adobe InDesign. The first
phase in the agreement calls for the two companies to develop
a solution to transfer layout information and typography from
InDesign to News Content Manager in order to allow Unisys clients
to work with InDesign as well as the Unisys pagination engine.
The new integration to allow layouts to be exported from InDesign
and translated into News Content Manager layouts will be available
for the Mac and Windows platforms. It will be included in Release
6.0 of the Unisys e-@ction Publishing Solution, which is targeted
for release in the third quarter of this year. A Beta version
will be showcased at the Newspaper Association of America's annual
technical exposition and conference for newspapers (NEXPO) in
June.
WoodWing has also released a public beta of its Smart Styles plugin
for Adobe InDesign for Mac and Windows. The plugin uses XML styles
for import and export between InDesign and Web documents. Version
1.5, which will be released at Seybold Boston in April, adds styling
at a character level, more comprehensive possibilities for repeating
paragraph styles, easier creation of new style libraries, an improved
manual and some bug fixes.
