Animating separate states in LiveMotion
by Stephen Schleicher

Let’s create another Sub Comp/Custom State for the Star Base layer. In the State Palette, click on the Create New State Icon. Select Custom State from the drop down menu, and name this new State Left Right. You will end up with three States in the State Palette.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Make sure the Left Right State is selected in the State Palette and in the Timeline double click on the Star Base (Left Right) layer to open its Sub Comp/TIG.

Drag the composition duration to two (2) seconds.

Click on the Medium_Yellow 01_Star.pdf layer in the Timeline and press the P key to bring up the Position Properties for this layer.

Press the Home key to make sure you are at the beginning of the Timeline and create an initial keyframe by clicking on the Position Stopwatch Icon. Move to the end of the composition and create a duplicate keyframe by placing a check in the keyframe box.

Move the Timeline Indicator to frame 6 in the Timeline and in the Comp Window click and drag the star to the left side of the screen. This will create an automatic keyframe in the Timeline.

Move the Timeline Indicator to 1 second and 6 frames in the Timeline and in the Comp Window drag the star to the right side of the screen. Again, another keyframe will automatically be created.

Click on the Star Base (Left Right) composition in the Timeline and make the comp a looping movie clip.

Use the Movie Clip Menu back arrow to move back to the Base Composition.

For the final action, I’m only going to give you an outline of what to do:
  • Create a new State, name the State Up Down.

  • Go into the Up Down Sub Comp and animate the star moving up and down over a 2 second period.

  • Don’ forget to make the Star Base (Up Down) Composition a looping movie clip.
