Now it's time to use these objects to distort other objects, which can include text, raster images or other vector objects. (Keep in mind, however, that this will not work with vector primitives created in Illustrator, at least in the version current as of this writing. You'll have to rasterize those before envelope distorting them.) In my case, I'll place a raster image in my document, then move it to the bottom of the stacking order (Object > Arrange > Send to Back). You can also do this by right-clicking the object and sending it to the back.

Then I'll select my envelope and choose Object > Envelope Distort > Expand. This will convert my envelope to a regular object, which is necessary when using it as the basis for the distortion of another object.

This is now the final object you'll use for the distortion of other images. Save it to your Symbols library to be able to access it time and again.

Finally, I'll select both objects and choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object. And voila!
