OptikVerve Virtual Photographer Plug-in for Photoshop and compatible image editors By John Virata

Virtual Photographer by OptikVerve Labs is a plug-in collection of filters that enable you to mimic virtually all aspect's of a 35mm film camera's adjustments via filters inside your favorite image editor. It features more than 50 presets that you can apply to your images, giving you a quick way to attain professional results. The workflow calls for choosing one of the 50 presets, and then making adjustments with the "styles," film speed, and effects, if necessary. Once you choose a preset, and you determine that it needs more tweaking, you can further tweak the image via buttons under Photographic Style, Film Speed, and the Effect and Black and White pull down.Photographic Styles include Original, Warm, Cool, Green Punch, and Subtle. Each of the Photographic styles can be further adjusted with a slider that appears below the style buttons.

Below this slider is Effect. Effect  features several different effects, ranging from normal, contrast, clear, and soft, to shift green, shift, red, shift left, and shift right. In between includes such effects as negative, wash, saturate, and colorize. Again these sliders can enhance the original preset that you selected, or you can stick with the default preset settings.

Dreamy

Below Effect is Black/White. The B/W effect includes normal, warm, cold, aged, antique, ice, greenery, grape, red wine, and picker. When you make changes via Effect or B/W, Virtual Photographer calls the preset a custom and reverts to custom. For example, if you initially worked with the Dreamy preset and changed it by clicking the B/W box, the preset reverts to custom. You can then save the effect via the settings box as a Custom effect for use on future images.

Negative

The Film Type styles feature Film 1, Film 2 and Slide 1, Slide 2. Both Film and Slide are adjusted via sliders as well. Film Speed enables you to choose a look for your image that appears to mimic the ASA film speed of traditional film. Your choices are 25, 100, 400, 800, and 1600.

Shoebox

The preview window enables you to view the changes that the filter will make to the image. It enables you to view the image at anywhere from just a few percentages in size to 100 percent. If you need answers, the question mark will take you to the OptikVerve website, where you can glean more information.

Trendsetter custom

When you've selected all the settings and are satisfied with the preview results, a click of the process button will apply the filter and settings to the image. You can also save the filter settings and give it a special name to apply to other images, without having to reinvent the filter, which is a time saver.

Virtual Photographer makes it really easy to add special looks to your images. The presets are mostly all original, and working with the plug-in is very easy. The best things about Virtual Photographer is that it is free, and it works with most image editing applications that support plug-ins. Photoshop Elements 4 was used as the host application for Virtual Photographer. It is unclear why the company offers the plug-in for free, but it is safe to say that people will gladly pay for the ease of use and wealth of different effects this free plug-in provides. However it is free so go and download it. For more information, visit http://www.optikvervelabs.com
