Talkin' Smack: Obsolete My Eye Why the Mac will continue to dominate the creative market These factors completely negate the small difference in render times that you will experience between Motorola and AMD/Intel processors. And, as I say, if render speeds are so important to you, you ought to have a render farm set up anyway, unless you're one of the two or three creative professionals out there who doesn't have an old PC or Mac sitting around doing nothing.

Is the Mac obsolete? No, unless you think small speed differences determine obsolescence, in which case you can toss out your Mac and PC and go invest in a supercomputing cluster, which, incidentally, includes the Mac OS X-powered Xserve, which has all the front- and back-end benefits you could possibly want in a rack-mount configuration.

Far from being obsolete, the Mac continues to lead every other computing platform for workflow and functionality.

For those of us ancient enough to remember the time before personal computers, the advent of the Macintosh seemed to be the fruition not only of so many promises of science fiction, but of fantasy as well. Apple, of course, had released earlier personal computers, including (for all practical purposes) the first personal computer, but none of them could do what the Mac could do, and no other manufacturer even came close to producing the kinds of innovations integrated into the Macintosh.

To this day, the Macintosh continues to bring innovation to the computer market, more so than any other computing platform. Where Microsoft merely absconds technologies that were developed by others (and ruins the innovators in the process), the Mac thrives as a platform for new technologies and consistently introduces new and better ways for people to make the most of this indispensable tool--a tool for artists, not a hindrance. This is why the Mac continues to dominate the creative market. And this is why the Mac will never be obsolete, regardless of processor speed.
