And Boris FX took me on a detailed tour of the upcoming Boris RED 3GL, an update to the company's integrated 3D compositing, titling and effects application designed to integrate with a range of Mac- and Windows-based NLEs. RED 3GL takes the already powerful features of Boris RED and adds about 30 new filters, along with some significant performance enhancements, including a focus on OpenGL hardware acceleration. Though the software (like most of what I saw at the show) was not in final release, it was handling several layers of complex 3D animation in real time with nary a glitch to be seen. We'll bring you more on this software when it's released later this quarter. In the meantime, you can check out < a href="http://www.borisfx.com" target="_blank">http://www.borisfx.com for more information. Hardware highlights
On the hardware side, I've already reported most of what I saw at the show and have little more to add. I did have a chance to swing over to the Matrox booth to get the skinny on its promised Mac OS X drivers for the RTMac capture and editing system. Sure enough, there it was, running on an older G4 system (pre-QuickSilver). When queried about a release date, a Matrox representative said beta drivers would be released to the public by the end of the month. As of this writing, Matrox has not updated its site with this information, but you may be able to find out more this week at http://www.matrox.com. AJA Video Systems earned some "oohs" with its new Io uncompressed audio and video FireWire capture device for Final Cut Pro 4. The device offers 8- and 10-bit capture for broadcast-quality production. Io connects to a Macintosh G4 desktop or notebook through a FireWire interface. It supports component and composite analog video, SDI digital video, balanced analog audio, AES/EBU digital audio, optical audio, RS-422 machine control and genlock. And it was designed to mount on a rack or sit on a desktop. Io will be available in the second quarter for Final Cut Pro 4 running on Mac OS X. It will sell for $2,290. Digital Voodoo extended its line of HD and SD editing boards for the Macintosh. These include HD|Fury and HD|Lust boards, along with SD|Greed, a 64-bit PCI board offering 10-bit uncompressed capture, playback and editing capabilities along with eight channels of AES/EBU digital audio. All of Digital Voodoo's latest product introductions have been Mac OS X-exclusive. For information can be found at http://www.digitalvoodoo.net. Page: Prev Page 1 2 3 4 Next Page
