One Fish. . .

Creating artwork in Photoshop Elements

I dont like the center of interest to be right in the middle so lets move it now.
Use the move tool and click on the fish layer in your layers palette then click on the image itself and move it to the left and down.

It should look something like this:

Now we are going to get rid of some of the edge so we will load the brushes included in the exercise files.  Click on the brush tool in the tool box then go to the preset area at the top, click on the arrow next to the brush shape then the arrow on the fly out and choose load brushes. Open the folder where you saved the files

and choose the FishTUT.abr file choose brush 30 which is Nagel Series 13 Chalk-10 and make the size 85 next to that click clear in the painting mode choices and next to that click 45% as your opacity setting.

Begin erasing the outline and go in a bit, not too close to the fish and not too many times on the same spot as we want to see some of the picture.

Now go back to the opacity and make your setting 100%.  This time only go around the edge.  It should look something like this.

Now we will apply a filter effect for a more artistic feel.  Select the fish layer and go to filter on the menu; choose artistic and watercolor with these settings:
Brush Detail 15
Shadow Intensity: 1
Texture: 1

When I have the center of interest to this point I look at the picture and find a contrasting color to use as a new layer.  I like the grayed purples so we will choose that.

Double click the foreground square and type in the numbers as follows:

Now we need to create a new layer and name it. Click on create new layer icon.

The software positions the new layer on top I dragged it below the fish layer.

Right mouse click on Layer 2 words and choose rename, name it purple back.

Make sure you have the new layer highlighted then choose the paint bucket tool

and click the image, it fills the layer with the color we created. Then choose the move tool and resize it to look similar to this.

You can see some of the straight edge left on the fish layer so we will soften them up.  Go back to your brush and choose the same brush and carefully paint along the edge and clear the hard lines.

Drag the Purple Scratch onto the image it will create a new layer.  Center everything.  To do this go to view/rulers.  Align and distribute and arrange show up at the top.

Make it the scratched square smaller than the purple back.

The order of the layers is like the above picture.

Drag Black Scratch onto the image and rename it Black Scratch in the layers palette.
